BUY IT NOW! Peko Peko is For Sale

by stacie on June 13, 2011

Have you heard?! Peko Peko: Family Friendly Recipes went on sale Friday. We are up and running!

Now it’s time to raise money for Japan.
Buy your copy now!!

Every book costs $29.95 and 100% of the proceeds, $11.45 of every purchase, goes to GlobalGiving. Every other penny goes to printing and shipping your order, nothing else. Blurb has waived their cut and every person involved in making the book (including me!) is buying personal copies.

Every sale counts.

Tell your friends, post, tweet, Facebook—help spread the word. Post your questions or drop a line. I’d be happy to tell you anything you want to know about the project (you hear that, press!).

Peko Peko has been a true labor of love. Everyone involved has done their part for free—from editing the manuscript to buying ingredients, from photo shooting and editing to laying out pages—and all admin costs came out of pocket without reimbursement. Nobody is making a dime off of this project except for Japan. And I believe that I speak for everyone involved when I say: we couldn’t be happier.

Thank you all for your support. Tell us what you think when you get your copy. And stay tuned. I’ll be posting here periodically to share fun press and keep you posted on how much we raise along the way.

Hi Stacie, I i just posted this question on Food52 too – any idea if this book is available in stores? I have a friend’s birthday to go to tomorrow and this would be a great gift, but I don’t think I have time to order it online. Thanks!

  • Stacie

Thanks for the question. No, Peko Peko is not available through any retailers. Blurb is a self publishing site that makes high-quality books and ours is only available through them. Maybe you can get it as a gift with a “Coming Your Way Soon” card?! :-)

Thanks Stacie, I ordered a couple of copies (one for myself too), I’ll just give it to her when it arrives. Looks great!

By any chance will the cookbook be made available as “soft” copy for download either in PDF or e-reader format?  Would you be able to reduce the cost/maximize the donation with an electronic format?

  • One Hungry Mama

No, it is only available through Blurb. We assessed the additional time and cost (and admin factors like getting the money from whatever service collects for sales to our charity) and decided that this was the best way to maximize profit and keep the project manageable, as everyone has volunteered their time. I hope you’ll consider buying a copy (or two or three!).

I received my book today, it looks fantastic, most recipes have  pictures which I like.  Can’t wait to get started on it.  It only took a few days to receive and was packaged like it came from Amazon.  But the best part of the deal is I was able to help in small way, but I feel so good about it.  Not sure where I got the link, but so glad I did.  Thank you!

you say that the cost includes printing and shipping with the total difference being the donation. When I attempted to purchase the book extra shipping costs were added. Is shipping included in the advertised cost – or not??

  • Stacie

Shipping is not included. When we say, “very other penny goes to printing and shipping your order, nothing else,” we mean that out of the total price you pay per book (book price + shipping, which varies depending on where you are), everything but printing and shipping costs go straight to GlobalGiving.

    Hope that helps clarify!
